Something magical happens in Dunedin every October! As Halloween approaches, mysterious witches begin appearing throughout our charming downtown, entertaining residents and visitors with music, dancing, laughter, and a little Halloween mischief.

But here’s the fun part: You never know exactly where the Witches of Dunedin will appear next!

Instead of publishing a traditional performance schedule, the Witches share clues on their Facebook page, inviting the community to solve the mystery and discover their next location.

It’s become one of Dunedin’s most entertaining Halloween traditions!

Who are the Witches of Dunedin?

The Witches of Dunedin are a group of local women who dress in elaborate witch costumes, grab their broomsticks, and perform choreographed dances at surprise locations around town.

The group began in 2019 after founder Alison Clarke was inspired by a video of the German Witch Dance. What started as a fun community activity grew into a beloved local tradition with a charitable mission.

Their performances are about more than Halloween entertainment. The Witches also raise money for local nonprofit organizations, combining fun, friendship, and community generosity.

Dancing for a good cause

One of the things I love about this tradition is the community spirit behind it.

The Witches have supported different local charities over the years, helping raise awareness and donations for organizations serving families and individuals in need.

In 2023, for example, their charitable efforts supported the House of Mercy and Encouragement, an organization providing services to children and families.

Make it a Halloween night out in Downtown Dunedin

Part of the fun of searching for the Witches is enjoying everything our wonderful downtown has to offer.

Grab dinner at a local restaurant, enjoy a sweet treat, browse the shops, or take an evening stroll along Main Street.

Dunedin’s walkable downtown, local businesses, and community events make it an ideal place to enjoy a fall evening.

And while you’re enjoying the Halloween season, mark your calendar for Dunedin’s Downtown Trick-or-Treating and Costume Contest on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 5–8 p.m.

Why I love living and working in Dunedin

As a Dunedin-area resident and local REALTOR®, I believe it’s the little things that make a community special.

It’s not just the beautiful homes, waterfront parks, beaches, and sunshine. It’s the people, local traditions, small businesses, and organizations that bring everyone together.

The Witches of Dunedin are a perfect example of what makes this community so unique.

Whether you’ve lived here for decades or you’re just discovering Dunedin for the first time, this is one October tradition worth experiencing.

So grab your broomstick, follow the clues, and see if you can find the Witches of Dunedin!

And if you’re thinking about making Dunedin, Clearwater, Palm Harbor, or Safety Harbor your home, I’d love to help you discover the neighborhoods and lifestyle that make northern Pinellas County such a wonderful place to live.
